Cutoff Formula

New IIT-JEE cut off Formula

The Indian Institute of Technology have finalised a new cut of formula to set cut off in IIT-JEE entrance examination at raising the minimum marks required in each of the three subjects to be for admission.

Detail information about new cut off formula is available in brochure of the IIT-JEE 2009 application form and it is also available on the website of IIT.

In year 2006 the IIT violated their own stated cutoff formula , denying admission to 994 students. the official formula involved calculating the average scores of all candidates in their physics , chemistry and mathematics papers . " standard Deviation " was to be calculated for each subject which is a a statical quantity. " Standard Deviation" then to be subtracted from the average for each subject to arrive at he official cut off.

In year 2007, following previous year controversy, the IITs simplified their cutoff determination procedure students in the top 80% in each of the three subjects were considered for admission.

The same procedure was followed in year 2008.
In 2009 the IIT will be using a modified form of the official 2006 formula.

The average physics, chemistry and mathematics scores of all the students who attempt three subject will be calculated . these average will serve as subject cutoff.
